Introduction: Homelessness is a problem which is endemic to British society and the homeless suffer from a variety of health problems, although engagement with medical services is poor.
Method: A literature search was carried out on Medline investigating homelessness and health. In addition visits were made to Ellesmere Port to explore the range of homeless services available.
Results: The paper “How can health services effectively meet the health needs of homeless people” was critically appraised, and a directory of services for the homeless in Ellesmere Port was created.
Discussion: The primary care services in Ellesmere Port are ill-equipped to deal with the complex health problems of its homeless population and a service such as the one in operation in Chester would be more effective.
